Almost 30 years on from Pretty Woman, why Beverly Hills is still LA’s most glamorous city


Walking down Rodeo Drive is like strolling through a Hollywood studio set, with its cardboard cut-out architecture, fleets of roaring supercars, and designer styling that would make the runways of a New York fashion week blush. You half expect to see Kathryn Bigelow pointing to a script, or Eddie Murphy in a car chase. It feels fiercely intimidating yet instantly familiar.

Familiar, because I’ve grown up watching scenes of Beverly Hills on my TV. And around every corner there’s a recognisable backdrop, from the famous Electric Fountain featured in Clueless (1995) to the Beverly Wilshire in Pretty Woman (1990).
